A Muslim schoolgirl in France has admitted that she lied about her teaching being “Islamophobic,” a claim that ultimately led to his decapitation by a jihadist.
Samuel Paty, a 47-year-old history and geography teacher, was murdered in October 2020, by an 18-year-old jihadist of Chechen origin.
The perpetrator, Abdoullakh Anzorov, identified Paty as a target after seeing a harassment campaign against him on social media. He was killed shortly after committing the heinous crime.
According to France24 the schoolgirl, who still cannot be named due to being a minor, claimed that Paty had ordered her out of the classroom before showing the rest of the class Charlie Hebdo.
The magazine, which is known for its harsh mockery of Islam and other cultural issues, was subject to its own brutal terrorist attacks back in 2015 that resulted in the slaughter of most of their editorial team.
In a court hearing this week, the girl sobbed as she addressed Paty’s family and asked for forgiveness for her despicable actions.
“I know it’s hard to hear, but I wanted to apologise,” she said. “I wanted to apologise sincerely. I’m sorry for destroying your life.”
“I apologise for my lie that brought us all back here,” she continued. ‘Without me, no one would be here.”
Among those being charged with crimes include the girl’s father, Brahim Chnina, who helped lead the harassment campaign against Party. He is now facing charges for links to terrorist activity.
The girl also admitted that her father had encouraged her to make a complaint at the time and accompanied her in doing so. However, she continued to lie after being taken in to police custody.
“I wanted to tell my parents that it was false, I knew that my father was not going to do anything to me , but I was afraid to say it,” she explained.
“My teacher had been decapitated, my father was in police custody, I couldn’t say it was false,” she said of her deceit.
The girl has since been handed an 18-month suspended sentence for her false allegations against Paty that led to his brutal murder.
Her five co-defendants, all of whom were also students at the school, were charged with criminal conspiracy for their role in preparing aggravated violence.
They all received suspended sentences, apart from one who must wear an electronic tag for six months.
