LONDON: Britons view Muslims with more suspicion than their American or European counterparts, according to a poll published in the Financial Times on Monday.
According to the Harris Interactive survey of 6,398 people, only about 59 percent of Britons believed it was possible to be both a Muslim and a British citizen, compared to more than 70 percent of Spanish and French voters.
Fifty-two percent of British respondents also said they expected a “major terrorist attack” in Britain within the next 12 months, the highest proportion of the six countries surveyed, with 32 percent of Spanish voters, 30 percent of Americans and between 15 and 18 percent of French, Germans and Italians expecting such an attack. afp
