Data ‘unequivocally’ shows Great Barrier Reef is in ‘extremely good condition’
Marine Physicist Professor Peter Ridd says the data shows “unequivocally” that the Great Barrier Reef is in “extremely good condition”.
It comes amid news Australia will attempt to lobby over a dozen countries and the European Union against a move by UNESCO to put the Great Barrier Reef on the World Heritage “in danger” list.
“There’s far more coral now than there was 10 years ago in many many zones,” Professor Ridd told Sky News. “The areas that were worst damaged by the 2016 bleaching event … has completely and utterly recovered to its previous levels of coral.”
