Tucker Carlson has recently decided that America would benefit from ceding power to the Chinese and implementing, even if only a little, Sharia law. I wonder if this increasingly despicable man has finally “jumped the shark.”
That phrase, for those who don’t know, originated to describe the moment when a popular TV show suddenly collapses because its writers have run out of decent ideas and are scraping the bottom of the barrel. Now, the phrase has expanded to encompass any situation in which someone has parted ways with sane functionality and opted for serious weirdness to remain relevant.
And this brings us to Tucker Carlson, once the most popular news show host in America. Every weeknight, there he’d be, looking mostly serious but kind of silly, and dispensing core conservative news and opinion.
Tucker entertainingly spoke about strong borders, common sense, pro-American, education, restraining the increasingly out-of-control LGBTQ+ agenda, not committing to a boots-on-the-ground war in Ukraine, maintaining fiscal responsibility, etc. Regarding Ukraine, that made sense. Tucker obviously wasn’t an interventionist, but after watching Democrats replicate the Vietnam template by giving up victories in both Iraq and Afghanistan, many Americans found that reasonable.
And then, in 2023, Fox News, for reasons that have never explicitly been stated, fired Tucker. People who enjoyed his show were outraged. When he set up his Tucker News Network, they followed him to show their support. And then weird things happened.
He’d already given a fawning interview to Vladimir Putin while still on Fox News, but most people figured it was because he was on Russian soil, and really didn’t want a bad case of radium poisoning. But as his own show continued, a few trends became obvious.
He was increasingly showcasing people who make a name in the dark world of conspiracies (e.g., Alex Jones or Andrew Tate, who is currently accused of rape and human trafficking). He started attacking popular, mainstream political figures like Ted Cruz, people who used to be regular guests on his show, and whose political viewpoints haven’t changed. It was creepy.
And then, after October 7, 2023, something else emerged. Tucker didn’t just oppose any U.S. support for Israel’s defensive war against Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis—all Iranian proxies—but he was also virulently anti-Israel. He showcased and agreed with people advancing provably false claims about Israel persecuting Christians (in fact, Muslims have driven Christians out of Bethlehem and Nazareth, and they’re not allowed to worship at all in some Muslim countries) or killing Gazan children on purpose.
From there, Tucker escalated to the deep conspiracy theory that a secret Jewish cabal—visible only to ultra-wise people such as Nick Fuentes, an anarchist antisemite, Hasan Piker, a very rich communist antisemite, or Candace Owens, a moon-landing-denying, mold-breathing, antisemitic lunatic—is controlling American politics and forcing Trump to go to war.
That every American president since Reagan has decried Iran and promised—falsely—to stop it, and that Trump had credible proof (made more credible by the recent attack on Diego Garcia) that Iran was nearing the ability to fire an EMP at Europe and, soon, at America, is irrelevant to these true believers.
Perhaps the house Tucker announced he would buy in Qatar has had something to do with this. Or maybe the rumors (which Tucker strongly denies) that Qataris help fund Tucker have made the difference. Or it could be Tucker’s massive nicotine habit. Or maybe it’s mommy issues. Or maybe it’s that Tucker erred when he thought he’d won that wrestling match with the demon…
No matter the source, Tucker stopped being the cool guy on Fox News. He was, instead, a sweaty, hysterically laughing, conspiratorial version of his former self.
But in the clickbait world of the internet, even conspiracy theorists must work to maintain their audience, and it’s entirely possible that, in pursuit of those clicks, Tucker has finally jumped the shark.
A few days ago, he announced that the Pax Americana is over. It’s time for America to cede power to China, if only to save the world from Israel. (As a point of interest, China claims to have over a billion people, and probably has around 900,000 million. Israel has 10 million people.)
Do I even need to address what a crazy idea it is to hand power to a totalitarian nation that wants to displace America in the world?
A few days later, Tucker did more shark jumping, this time expressing a newfound reverence for sharia law’s benefits to society:
One can worry about America’s decline (Tucker is correct about that) without saying that sharia looks like a reasonable alternative. There’s something about the whole totalitarian, beheading, hanging, burqa-ing, slavery, jihadist vibe of Islam that should be off-putting. Even Fredo would disagree with Tucker:
In his video praising Sharia societies, Tucker vehemently insists that he’s Christian. Like totally, really, really Christian. The gentleman almost seems to protest too much, methinks. Then, in the same video, Tucker says that Western colonialism caused Islamic extremism:
Uh, no. The Koran caused Islamic extremism, with its mandate that devout Muslims go forth and conquer with fire and sword. Within a few centuries of Mohamed’s death, Islam colonized almost the entire Middle East, along with half of Africa, Spain, Central Europe, India, and the Malayan Peninsula. Now, it has its eyes on us.
How much more will Tucker’s devoted fans take of this nonsense before they realize that Tucker Carlson has definitively jumped the shark?

eller andet. I nogle kredse er det jo moderne at eksperi-
mentere med diverse. Stoffer kan gøre folk sindssyge.
Jeg gætter på at han bliver så godt betalt af Qatar og muligvis Kina
at han er villig til at sige hvadsomhelst
Men det kan da også godt være at han har et stofmisbrug …
