Journalist and author Louise Perry examines the widening political divide between young men and women. Young women are moving sharply leftward, while young men are drifting rightward. Meanwhile, both sexes increasingly demand political compatibility in romantic partners, even as dating and marriage decline. Perry argues that technology and the disappearance of face-to-face interactions are driving men and women further apart.
Perry also explores how shrinking families, fatherlessness, and fewer friendships between boys and girls leave young people with little meaningful contact with the opposite sex. She warns that this estrangement can breed mutual resentment, creating a vicious cycle in which personal alienation fuels political hostility and makes relationships even harder to establish.
